Introduction – Why a Confession of Faith?

Introduction

The Grace Community Church Confession of Faith is published with the intent to present a clear and concise presentation of the essential beliefs which we have embraced and taken as our own. The beliefs delineated in the following chapters are wholly grounded in the inspired Word of God. We feel it is necessary to publish this Confession for the following reasons:

1.                  To answer the question, “What does The Grace Community Church stand for?” In our American society there are an innumerable number of churches who say they are Bible believing churches. Yet on closer inspection, it is found that many differences are found between the churches – some are insignificant, others are very significant. Too many people blindly join a church without first determining the core truths on which a church stands. Tragically, this happens due to the fact that the individual Church has not taken time to examine The Holy Scriptures and have brought together a Confession of their core beliefs. In many cases, Churches that do subscribe to an already published Confession, have not taken the time to study the individual points of that Confession. Consequently, there is much disparity in many Churches over what they “say” they believe and what are the actual declarations of the Confession to which they subscribe.

The Grace Community Church Confession of Faith is our own. We make no apology of the many reflections of both the London 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith and The Articles of Faith of The First Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas found within our Confession. To copy that which is correct is wisdom. Nevertheless, our Confession is unique to us. It reflects where the Holy Spirit of God has brought us as far as illumination of The Holy Scriptures. We very much join our voices with Sir Isaac Newton when he declared, “If I have seen farther, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.”  We thank our Sovereign God for what we have been able to glean from the giants of the Faith in the past. We feel it is important for all interested persons to be able to read what The Grace Community Church stands for in the present.

2.                  To answer the question, “What does The Grace Community Church teach?” We love our Sovereign God as He has revealed Himself in the three Persons of  Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. And we wholly subscribe to The Holy Scriptures which reflects His revealed will for His people. We wholeheartedly embrace “the whole counsel of God” commonly known as the Doctrines of Grace. Since there is much confusion in Christendom as to what exactly are the Doctrines of Grace, we present this confession as a teaching tool to address that need.

3.                  The Grace Community Church Confession of Faith is a document which celebrates the Holiness of God, The Inerrant Purity of The Holy Scriptures, the joy of our salvation, our continuing sanctification and our ultimate glorification in Christ Jesus, our Saviour, our King and our soon coming Lord.
